Hetty Snell, Cello

British cellist Hetty Snell graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2012, where she studied with Josephine Knight. She has since held orchestral positions with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and joined the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House in 2018 as Principal Cello.

In 2020 Hetty performed the solo cello part in “The Cellist” - a new ballet about the life of Jacqueline du Pré, choreographed by Cathy Marston for the main stage at the Royal Opera House.

She has performed worldwide, including in North and South America, Japan, China and across Europe and has been invited to perform as guest principal cello across the Country.

As a chamber musician, Hetty has appeared on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In tune’, performed at the Royal Festival Hall and Wigmore Hall, and has toured across Europe and Australia.

Aside from performing, Hetty has a real enthusiasm for teaching and outreach work, including special educational needs and disabilities, and work in dementia care homes. She also enjoys tutoring the cello sections for the National Children’s Orchestra and the Benedetti Foundation.
